Texas College Rugby Preview - Nov 16-17

Nov 16 - SWC & Lonestar

St Edward's at Texas State (SWC) in San Marcos, TX (Directions)
AND
St Edward's 2 at Texas State 2 (Lonestar)

Texas State is always a tough team at home. Even tougher when they are in need of a win. St Edward's is a tough and disciplined team, period (remember, they won last weekend while a man down for 65 minutes). And the Hilltoppers expect to win. I give the advantage to St Ed's in the SWC match because they seem to be peaking. But, I expect Texas St to take the Lonestar match.

Friendlies

Texas A&M at LSU - Cancelled due to LSU scheduling conflicts in Baton Rouge.

UT-Dallas at Oklahoma's 2nds & 3rds in Norman, OK at 2pm.

Coaches Wagner & Hinson are very progressive for NSCRO coaches. An NSCRO club - even one the size of UTD - taking on a D-1A club is ambitous, to be sure. But UTD makes this trip for the right reasons - to have fun and learn about the game and it's culture from other players. Ken Forehand's team will be great hosts and will ensure that noone loses on this roadtrip!

SWWC

Texas A&M at Sam Houston in Hunstville at 10am

Texas State at Texas Tech in Lubbock at 1pm

SWC

***Game of the Week***
TCU at Rice University in Houston at 2pm

This is my game of the week. Rice has been quiet this fall up until they defeated Texas State. Several observers at that match said it was back-and-forth affair until the final 15 minutes when Rice put three easy tries away after a penalty try for the come-from-way-behind win. TCU has won two matches easy. TCU will be motivated and peaking, but on a roadtrip. Rice will be fit, patient, and at home. TCU will not be defeated easily, but I will give the advantage to Rice.

UNT vs UH at the Houston Amateur Sports Park (HASP) at 2pm

UH is hungry for a win, but UNT is tough, tough, tough. Second week on the road for the Mean Green Machine. UH at home. IF UH can keep UNT inside when green has the ball, then advantage Cougars. If UNT gets the ball outside enough, the they go home the winner.

Lonestar

UT-San Antonio at Angelo State in San Angelo at 2pm

The Rams are coming off of a big win on the road and will be hard to beat at home. The RoadRunners won big last Friday in San Marcos and needs to maintain the momentum. This one may be too close to call, but I'll say UTSA.

LeTourneau at Midwestern State in Wichita Falls at 2pm

Rod Puentes says, "(Freddie) has put together a team of players full of passion which we are aware of and must prepare (for). They played UTD tough in their first ever match and bested UD at UD. Our guys are not taking them lightly, I am making sure of that."

Midwestern's a strong team this year and do not seem to have lost any of the momentum they had last year. Both MSU & LETU have dropped one game and that to the same opponent - UTD. MSU played the Comet closer by margin of score, so I will give the slight advantage in this match to MSU.

UDallas at SMU in Dallas at 2pm

This one, as always, will be a tight game. Equal teams all around, but UD needs the win more, so advantage UD.
