Miss Cellaneus
No links here, just some thoughts on the USA Rugby College 7s National Championships in College Station, TX:
1. The weather could not have been better.
2. The pitches were fast, but TAMU Rec Sports needs to consult the TAMU Agronomy Department for proper time to seed before a tournament.
3. Texas A&M Rugby needs Old Maroon to start raising the money now. The hard part is already done, TAMU earmarked land near the Penberthy Rec Sports Complex for a rugby stadium (seriously, just getting those words on TAMU's future use map is the biggest step)!
4. Scheduling of the tournament was much better this year. However, I respectfully request that next year's tournament not be scheduled on the same weekend as an IRB 7s event.
5. That being said, I further request that each of the US 7s teams and coaches be on-hand both days for this event. If you want to encourage potential US Rugby Olympians to matriculate from college rugby, hands-on motivation is crucial.
6. If this is held in College Station again next year (and no indication was given otherwise), RugbyTexas needs to have as many HS & Age-Grade rugby players on hand as possible. Certainly, USA Rugby & Texas A&M Rugby will discount or comp tickets to HS & Age-Grade rugby players. Again, if you want them to matriculate...
7. This year's 7s referee selections were outstanding. Thanks to the TRRA for supplying so many tireless ARs to complete the "Teams of 5." Most of these folks put in 16 matches per day!
8. Finally, a very special thanks to Norwich, Navy, Arkansas State, & Life University for providing such thrilling and worthwhile finals. There was no doubt in anyone's mind that you left it all on the pitch.
