In Texas College Rugby last weekend, the NSCRO tourists from the University of West Florida split two matches,winning a 2nd XV match against Texas (who obviously sat their 7s starters in preparation for Nationals) and dropping a cross-conference NSCRO to a well-prepared and ready St Edward's. In further cross-conference action, Texas State traveled far north to defeat their Oklahoman equals in Stillwater and North Texas sent their 2nd XV to victory against the University of Dallas.
There were only two matches for the gentlemen in conference play. UT-Dallas remains undefeated in Lone Star Conference play since their inception as they downed their in-town rivals, Southern Methodist. Stephen F Austin surprised a ready University of Houston squad as the Lumberjacks fought their way to a close victory on the Cougars' home ground.
In the SWWC, Tech provided rough treatment to the visiting Aggies. The LSWC saw two matches as UT-San Antonio took the best of three 7s matches over Texas Christian and Texas State dealt a harsh "welcome to XVs" drubbing of the inaugural UT-Dallas team.
In Division 1 rugby, the Women's portion of the Red River Conference began to show form as the SHARCs, Valkyries and Roses all recorded wins. The much-anticipated Men's D1 play began with three cross-town matches with the Blacks topping the Huns, Griffins Rugby over Ft Worth, and HARC taking the first match in the Bayou Battle Rugby Cup series against The Woodlands.
