Texas A&M finished the ARC regular season with a perfect 5-0 record. Much of the Aggies' success can be attributed to the hard lessons they learned in their out-of-conference losses to LSU, Arkansas State, and BYU. As the season progressed, the Aggies tightened their pattern of play on both offense and defense. The Aggies have the most to lose this weekend and must play their best match of the year.
Texas' 4-1 record was realized through excellent coaching and building their depth by playing a development side in the D1AA Southwest Rugby Conference. The Longhorns proved to be a second half team this season as they came from behind to defeat Oklahoma and Tech. They also played an excellent final 15 minutes when they hosted Texas A&M, however they ran out of time. Texas has been plagued with injuries, so they must rely on their depth to pull out a win.
Oklahoma and Tech were denied their chance to best each other by a cruel fate out of their control. Saturday is their day of reckoning. Both sides boast strong, hard-running 8-men and a combination of speed and deception at the Outside Center-Wing. Each team has proven it can put plenty of points on the board. This match may prove to be a barn-burner that will be decided in the final minutes.
The Tech-OU match will be refereed by Texas C1 Referee, Andrew Brooks of Austin, TX. National Panel Referee, Kurt Weaver, will referee the Texas-Texas A&M match.
Tickets to the event will be $5 at the gate (children under 10 get in free). A flyer will be made available on campus and at the Championship Weekend's Facebook Event Page. Presenting this flyer at the gate will gain the bearer $1 off admission.
