You may remember that El Azul (a 7s team supported by the Austin Huns RFC) placed 3rd in the Men's Elite Division at the 2013 LVI. This summer, Landry intends to capitalize on that success by competing in 5-6 tournaments (including the West Qualifiers and Bloodfest) with his 1st Side and at least five tournaments with his 2nd side. Landry says, "Our top players by the end of the summer will be selected to compete" for El Azul in the 2013 Serevi Invitational in Glendale, CO. Big time tournaments like the Serevi Invitational require the kind of depth and selection that Landry seeks. Landry is enthusiastic about the invitation stating, "We're excited about the opportunity to show case some Texas talent on this major event stage."
This summer, El Azul gains the capability to house young visiting rugby players in Austin so that they can focus on rugby and fitness. Everybody wants to be competitive at 7s now and Landry thinks this addition may give his team an edge in recruiting. El Azul's history of competitiveness and solid coaching, combined with some added benefits, may just do the trick.
