Coach Ferguson resigns from Austin Blacks to coach St Edward's

The Director of Rugby and Head Coach of the Austin Rugby Club, Lachlan Ferguson, has stepped down from his coaching roles at the Austin Blacks. Coach Ferguson moved to Austin and commenced coaching the Austin Rugby Club when he married a local girl in 2010.

He leaves the Austin Blacks with a tremendous coaching record over the past three seasons - compiling a 30-1-1 record in Texas Rugby Union  Div.1 matches and a 32-4-0 record in TRU Div.3 matches. The Austin Blacks have been the Texas Men’s Rugby Champions for the past three seasons under Coach Ferguson. Over the same period, Coach Ferguson re-established the St Edward’s University rugby program. This program created history by being the first university in Texas to win promotion three seasons in a row from Div 3 to Div 1.

Lachlan Ferguson states, “Due to my increased work load and the recent exciting developments at the St Edwards University rugby program, I am no longer able to give ARC the attention that it deserves. It
has been a pleasure to work and to be a part of this formidable rugby club. We have had great success over the last three years and I am grateful to have been a part of it. I leave the club proud of the work that I have contributed, most importantly developing the club numbers and the quality of rugby that we have produced over the past three seasons.

I am very excited about continuing to work with the outstanding people at St Edward’s University and building a program that will, within the next 3-5 years, rival the best practices in any college rugby program in America. The University has recognized the work that the rugby program provides in enhancing a student’s experience particularly the synergy of an international sport with an internationally renowned educational institution in Austin”.

The Austin Rugby Club accepted Ferguson's resignation with this statement: "With deep regrets, the Austin Rugby Club announces that they have accepted the resignation of Lachlan Ferguson, the head coach of the the Blacks for the past three seasons. Lachlan has cited other coaching and career commitments in his decision to part ways with the Blacks, and the club wishes him well in those and all his endeavors. Lachlan has built a solid rugby program, and has lifted the numbers of the club, while maintaining the focus of producing a national power in USA Rugby. The Austin Blacks will do everything they can to support Lachlan in his current capacity, and hope to see him back amongst our numbers in years to come. In the meantime, we are accepting applications and reviewing possible candidates as replacements for the upcoming season. Good Luck Lach!"
