For those few of you that have stuck with me for a while, I've got some news: Curtis Reed, Owner & Editor of This Is American Rugby (TIAR), has hired me on to his rugby news website covering rugby in Texas. So, it is in the spirit of Ted Hardy's article "Keep Moving Forward" that I announce a necessary change. I'm going to be spending a LOT more time writing for TIAR than RuckBottom and getting more than ten times the exposure for our Texas ruggers!
I won't completely abandon RuckBottom. I'll need a place to vent my opinions. TIAR is a reporting position, not op-ed. Also, I still want to collect and report scores in one place. Finally, I want to get back to sharing links with you of our Texas Youth, HS, & Collegiate ruggers as they move forward.
It's a good time for rugby in Texas. We've enjoyed two good years of record setting attendance to international test matches. We're hosting a stop on the IRB's Women's 7s World Series. Our collegiates boast two D1 conferences, a strong NSCRO conference, and explosive growth in women's rugby (three to ten teams in three years!). RugbyTexas sees new HS teams join its ranks each year and I predict we are going to need an exponentially large number of coaches and referees to meet the demand there in two years (seriously). Our Senior Women's teams are in a growth stage and moving forward. It may take a couple of years, but our Senior men's teams found out this year that the step from Texas to regional playoffs is huge. Teams like Dallas RFC and HARC have decided to take a long look at how to break that barrier and are taking steps to do so.
Rugby here is good and I am glad to be in a position to tell everyone that will take the time to listen or read about it! Thank you for reading and if you happen to attend the Cherrybone 7s tournament in The Woodlands, TX on July 27, please stop by the broadcast booth and say, "Howdy!"
